Hurricane Ian Storm Mitigation

This home in Florida suffered water damage throughout the entire home when Hurricane Ian ravaged the coast. The customer stated on the initial call that the home suffered about 14 inches of flooding from the storm surge. Being native to Florida, they were aware that the home more than likely needed and entire gut due to the extensive flooding, and wanted services right away to prevent any further damages.

Finding professionals to get the job done was proving difficult due to the high volume of customers in need to the same services. The customer was so pleased that our STORM Team were there to help get the job done.

The after photo was taken only 25 days after the beginning of the job, leaving the home completely dry and ready to be reconstructed. With such extensive damages, the process was expected to take much longer and they were pleased with a job done efficiently.

Hurricane Ian 2022

9/29/2022 (Permalink)

Hurricane Ian is the first major hurricane to impact the United States this hurricane season. It hit the Florida in the Gulf as a Category 4 hurricane on September, 28th in the early afternoon. Some people in the direct impact zone have been experiencing storm surges as high as 8ft tall, with an expectancy of another few feet to come.

As of Thursday September 29th, Hurricane Ian is exiting Florida as a tropical storm and re-entering the ocean. Meteorologists expect the storm to gain strength while over the ocean and pickup hurricane status once again before it hits South Carolina on Friday September 30th.

At SERVPRO of Anderson, our production members participate in STORM where our crew is always prepared to dispatch and help out our fellow SERVPRO operations to deal with any damages the storm may bring.

We have many blogs available to the public about Hurricane preparation that we hope will help prepare your home and businesses for Hurricane Ian.

Summer 2022 Storm Damage

4/1/2022 (Permalink)

As the summer months approach, so do the storms that the change in air temperature and wind speeds bring. Summer storms tend to be more harsh than the ones that we in the Upstate of South Carolina experience in the other months. The best way for you to prepare for these summer storms is to make sure your house is prepared in advance. Here are some things you can do to help prepare your home or business for the coming summer storms.

  • Make sure you have the proper insurance to protect your home or business from a strong summer storm.
  • Remove or trim all trees that are dead or have heavy hanging limbs.
  • Keep the property around your home or  business free of all debris that could cause damage if blown around by the wind.
  • Check that all windows are properly installed and do not have broken seals or glass.
  • Clean out gutters of all debris to prevent them becoming clogged with heavy rainfall.

Even if you are completely prepared for the coming summer storms, there is still the possibility of damages that are not preventable. Things like strong wind, flooding, and lightning are not preventable and can cause serious damage to your structure. If you do suffer water, fire, or mold damage from summer storms, call the professionals at SERVPRO of Anderson come out and take care of the job.

Steps to Take After Storm Damage

12/17/2021 (Permalink)

With tornadoes and heavy rain extending into the later months of the year, storm damage can occur any time to your home or business. While these storms can cause structural and water damage, they also pose safety and health hazards. Having a plan to deal with damages is important for your safety and the cleanup of your home.

The first thing you should do after a storm, is to take precaution when assessing the situation. Look for structural damage and broken items on the property that may be dangerous. It is important to note any smells of gas, and shut off the main line if you notice a leak. Microbial growth can also happen within 24 hours of water damage.

Once you know the severity of the damages, make sure to document everything as is with multiple photos for your local restoration provider and insurance. This will help to assure that you are fully compensated for the mitigation and restoration process.

After you have contacted your insurance provider, give SERVPRO of Anderson a call at (864)224-0285. We are Faster to Any Disaster, and available 24/7.

Summer Thunderstorm Safety

7/6/2021 (Permalink)

In the Upstate the summer is packed with many thunderstorms due to high humidity. Thunderstorms can be dangerous because they include heavy rain, lightning, and high winds. They can even go on to produce tornadoes, causing damage to local homes and businesses. A thunderstorm is considered severe when it contains large hail and/or damaging straight-line winds of 58 miles per hour or greater.

These types of storms can cause great damage to any home or business, but more importantly can pose a threat to your safety! There are some safety tips to help keep you safe during summer thunderstorms.

  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Get into basement if available or the lowest level of your home/ business
  • Stay away from doors or windows

It is extremely important to know what to look for and understand what thunderstorm warnings may mean. For example, a thunderstorm watch means that the conditions are right for a thunderstorm to develop, whereas a thunderstorm warning means that there have been storms spotted around your area in the radar. Keeping up with the forecast can help keep you prepared for any disaster.

To better prepare your business for possible damages, SERVPRO of Anderson has a team ready to set up an Emergency Readiness Plan at any time. Our production crew is available 24/7 for any damage a summer thunderstorm may have on your home or business.

We hope that this information will help prepare our local community for any storms that may roll through this summer season. Being prepared is the first step, but if damages do occur, we at SERVPRO of Anderson can be your second step into getting your home or business back to preloss condition!

At SERVPRO of Anderson, we have been prepping for hurricane season for a few months and our production crew is on alert and ready for any possible damages. If need be, our STORM team is organized and will be dispatched to the coast to help with any severe damages.

Rainwater Causes Water Damage in South Carolina Business

5/14/2021 (Permalink)

outside water entering building Heavy Rain Floods Business

This business called us at SERVPRO of Anderson to come out and help extract water that entered their business from outside. The storm causes some pretty extensive water damage in their business, leaving over two inches of standing water in their stock room. While there are things that you can do to help prevent things like this happening, in some cases it is not avoidable like in the photo posted. The business owners cleared their drainpipe, unfortunately there was just too much rainwater. Our production crew came in and extracted all of the standing water and evaluated if any further mitigation was needed. It is important to extract water straight away to prevent further damages. Preventing Water Damage This Summer

4/23/2021 (Permalink)

With summer right around the corner, SERVPRO of Anderson is beginning to prepare for the water damage that these storms may bring to the community around us. While we prepare our production crew and equipment to help mitigate storm damage, you could be preparing your home or business to help prevent any damage at all! The first thing you can do to prep your home for the impending summer weather is to clean out your gutters. Even though this is a dreaded summer chore for all of us, it can actually save you a lot of grief in the long run. Next, check those appliances that you rely on so heavily during those long hot days. Your air conditioning unit creates a good amount of condensation during the summer, so make sure you tend to your units regularly and that there are no clogs. Some A/C units are found in the attic, which can cause unnoticed significant water damage and the potential of microbial growth due to the warmness of the attic. Maintaining these few things can help keep your home or business safe from any summer storm damage these next few months! If the summer rains do cause damage on your home, not to worry, we are prepared too and can be out to help in no time. Call us at SERVPRO of Anderson at (864)-224-0285.

Storm Team Back From Oklahoma

4/7/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Anderson’s production team is finally home from providing assistance to SERVPRO branches in Oklahoma and Texas after the polar vortex event. Homes in southern states are not typically designed to withstand extreme cold temperatures, so many people experienced water damage when their pipes froze and burst, causing significant damage to their homes. SERVPRO of Anderson extracted all of the standing water and placed drying equipment. Next, the crews demolished and removed any damaged drywall and flooring. It’s important to be thorough when removing water damaged materials to prevent any mold and microbial growth. Once all of the affected materials have been removed, the drying equipment will continue to remove any remaining moisture. Weather events like the polar vortex don’t happen often, but when nature reminds us of who is really in charge, SERVPRO of Anderson will always be there to help. Storm Preparation

3/17/2021 (Permalink)

The upstate of South Carolina is expecting some severe weather Thursday March 18th, 2021 as a large storm makes its way east from the Mid-West. Local news outlets are reporting that, “this area has not been under a ‘very high risk’ like this since April 5th, 2017.” Our area of the upstate will experience high winds, heavy rains, large hail, and possibly even tornadoes. It is important that you have a plan for you and your family should a tornado touch down near your home or place of work, but you should also prepare your home for possible water damages. In order to do this, there are a number of steps you can take.

  • Seal off basement area
  • Secure items outside, such as garbage cans and outdoor furniture.
  • Make sure all outside items left behind are secure.
  • Clean the gutters on your home and storm drains near your house.

Doing any of these things ahead of bad weather can help eliminate damage to your home. If you do suffer any damages during the storm that is approaching, you can call SERVPRO of Anderson to help clean and repair any damages. SERVPRO of Anderson (864)-224-0285!!

African Dust and Tropical Storms

8/19/2020 (Permalink)

Have you noticed that this year's hurricane season is supposed to be more severe? There have been more tropical storm warnings than there usually are, and part of the reason is because of this season's African dust.

The amount of African dust over the eastern and central Atlantic Ocean can inhibit tropical storm development. Although this dust occurs almost every year, some years there is more dust than others. The dust is created in the Sahara Desert and is blown through the Caribbean Sea and Gulf Coast by strong winds. This dust creates extremely dry air over the ocean which can prevent tropical storms from progressing.

In years past, the African dust has prevented a lot of tropical storms from forming so far. Part of Hurricane season is still upon us, but hopefully we will not see any more severe tropical storms or hurricanes.

Call SERVPRO of Anderson today if you experience storm damage.

Hurricane Season

8/7/2020 (Permalink)

As August approaches, we are starting to come into hurricane season here on the East Coast. While these storms rarely come as far inland as Anderson, it is not unheard of like we learned with Hurricane Florence. Here at SERVPRO of Anderson, we are prepared for anything and want to make sure that as homeowners, you are too!

We prepare for incoming storms by making sure that we are stocked up on products to help clean your homes and by refreshing the production team’s knowledge with courses in restoration and water mitigation.

YOU can prepare by reading our blog on Categories of Water Damage, that way if disaster does strike, you can be educated on what you are dealing with.
